Ingredient Philosophy
Every ingredient in Osiya was selected for a reason.
Rather than relying on refined sugar, grain-based flours, or industrial seed oils, we chose ingredients that support the nutritional and functional goals of our Purple Sweet Potato Cookies.
The foundation of Osiya.
For generations, purple sweet potato served as a dietary staple in Okinawa, Japan, a region renowned for the exceptional longevity and vitality of its people.
Its vibrant purple color comes from anthocyanins, a class of polyphenols known for their antioxidant properties. Purple sweet potato also provides naturally occurring fiber, minerals such as potassium and manganese, and complex carbohydrates that deliver sustained energy.
Because it serves as both the nutritional and flavor foundation of our cookies, everything else in the recipe was selected to support it, not distract from it.
We believe sweetness shouldn't require added sugar.
To achieve this, we use a combination of allulose and monk fruit.
Allulose is a naturally occurring sugar found in small amounts in foods such as figs and raisins. It provides sweetness with minimal impact on blood glucose while also exhibiting prebiotic properties.
Combined with monk fruit, a naturally derived low-glycemic sweetener, it allows us to create a satisfying sweetness without the large amounts of added sugar commonly found in conventional cookies.
Great ingredients deserve great preparation.
Our purple sweet potato undergoes a deliberate cook-cool-cook process designed to increase resistant starch formation.
Resistant starch functions as a prebiotic fiber that supports gut health and helps moderate glycemic response.
This commitment to preparation extends throughout our formulation. Each ingredient is selected and prepared with the goal of preserving its integrity and optimizing its function.
Most cookies rely on refined grain flours. Ours don't.
Osiya uses a combination of organic blanched almond flour and organic tapioca flour instead.
Blanched almond flour contributes healthy fats, fiber, and protein, while tapioca flour helps create the texture and consistency of a traditional cookie.
Together, they provide a satisfying foundation while allowing our cookies to remain completely grain-free.
